I caught a star
and put it in my pocket
to keep it safe..

I took it home
and placed it on a shelf
in a cold dark place..

I kept it a secret
no one knew
what I was hiding..

You needed a friend
but I had nothing to offer
so I gave the star to you..

Your face lit up
I could feel the warmth
you almost felt complete..

But you let go
and the star went home
leaving you breathless
and almost knocked you off your feet..

The sky burns
the star shines bright
and I quietly watched
as you found yourself
somewhere deep within the night.

Wow, all I can say is I like this poem.

I can see the star is used as a metaphor of another prized posession that we have and we don't want either our friends and family to find it, for various reasons such as they would throw it away, they would claim it for themselves, etc, so we hid it somewhere where they can't find it.

And despite our relunctance to part away from it, we will find someone who could use it, and how much it would mean a lot to them, and thus you handed it to them in the hope that you get to make them feel happy.

And then, you find out in dismay that it went missing and got stolen, rendering all your efforts for nothing, and you couldn't do anything much but watch the person in question despairing their loss.

You write very well, first of all. This poem expresses a lot... and of how I am. Different people perceives different things differently, that I know. This is how I thought it meant:

You found something precious, and to prevent if from being stolen, broken, etc. you hid it so that you know that won't happen. However, one day, a precious person came along, and you decided to give the thing you found to them. They were very happy at first, and they acted as if their whole life depended on it. But in the end, they lost/let go of the precious thing that you gave them.

That has happened to me before. Twice, ever since I can remember. xD I LUV IT!

I hear special things (like stars or... even friends.. lovers?) can be hard to catch and even harder to hold onto. Your writing and poetry is very moving. Although at time it makes me wana cry. Which is a complement to the poet.

Very interesting, and I had fun reading it. It was very true, and expresses lots of detail in just a few words. Keep up the good work!

It's kinda sad but beautiful, giving someone something so that they can shine and be their owe but you love what you love. At least that is what I got from it. Nicely written :)

My brain is kinda fried now, so I'm having trouble coming up with what the star represents. ^^;
Can I ask what it was meant to be, well, what you intended it to mean?
I love the poem by the way, past cool!

I might be wrong and often I am... but I suppose it could be anything special. Friendship, love, or perhaps simply just a star itself since they're magic in their own right.
